Crowns and Bridges
Crowns, or caps, cover the tooth to bring the tooth back to its normal shape and size. The crown is needed when a tooth is too broken down, has too many fillings or is cracked. Crowns are also helpful to provide support for the attachment of a bridge.
How does it work?
Your dentist will reduce the existing tooth so the crown can fit over it. Traditionally, impressions are made and sent to the lab. Your dentist will place a temporary crown on the tooth until your permanent crown has been made by the lab.
Crown Seat Appointment
The dentist will typically bring you back in 2-3 weeks after the temporary crown has been placed. This is a shorter appointment and you usually do not need to be numb for it. The temporary crown is removed, the permanent crown is placed. The permanent crown is checked for looks and function. The permanent crown is then cemented on and the you are free to go with a great new look.
